This movie really surprised me: I expected it to look amazing and suck in the plot/acting department, but it both showed an acceptable level of skill. The director turns out to be the Chech-born, French graphic novelist Enki Bilal and the movie is apparently based on a few of his works. Also surprisingly, the movie is French (in English, but just from France) when I had thought it was from Japan.
The last surprise was the biggest: the movie is CGI animation with some, but not all of the characters played by human actors. Or in many cases, played partially by human actors; i.e., a CG head replacing the human actor's head, but the actor's body being in costume. They do such a good job of that I didn't realize some of the faces were CG until I watched the making of documentary. Some of the characters are completely CG and the movie doesn't make any attempt to hide that fact. All in all, your local Suckbuster should have one copy, so I recommend you hunt it down and watch it.
